Looking through the December issue of the Rotarian Magazine, I was reminded of how much incredible good Rotary does throughout our world. Helping deaf young people in Switzerland. Heart operations for children in Indiana. Rainwater collection tanks in Guyana. Eye surgeries in Burundi. Money for orphanages in Kenya for children who have lost their parents to AIDS. Fixing up a kitchen in Fiji’s only psychiatric hospital. Rotaractors in Korea doing a project to address child mortality. Immunization of 4,276 children in Pakistan against Polio. You had a hand in each of these efforts with your support of the Rotary Foundation. Thank you for all that you do.
December is Family Month. Find a way to involve your family in a Rotary project. Maybe the ringing of the Salvation Army bell. It will help them feel a part of what you do as a Rotarian.
A few facts:
- Rotarians have given more than $730 million toward the goal of Polio eradication.
- One vial of the polio vaccine contains enough vaccine to immunize 20 children.
- Rotary and its partners have mobilized US $4,125 billion from public sector donors for global polio eradication.
- At a typical National Immunization Day in India, 6,000 children per second are immunized
- Right now, more than 400 graduates of our Rotary Centers for International Studies are working in the areas of conflict resolution, humanitarian aid, diploymacy, and government.
- In 1929, The Rotary Foundation made it’s first-ever donation: a US $500 gift to the National Society for Crippled Children, now known as Easter Seals.
Thanks again for all that you do.
Make Dreams Real!
